Davenport University Athletics

Rick Berkey has been the voice of Davenport men's basketball since the 2012-13 season and has also been the only play-by-play broadcaster for the football program which began in 2016.

Berkey has been broadcasting on the radio, television and Internet for over 40 years, having worked for WCUZ-AM, WOOD Radio, WXMI Television, WMAX-AM and ESPN 96.1. Along with his duties at Davenport, Berkey has called the action for the West Michigan Whitecaps, Grand Rapids Hoops, Grand Rapids Rampage, Grand Valley State, Michigan State and countless high school games.

In 2025, he was elected to the Grand Rapids Sports Hall of Fame as a recipient of the Warren Reynolds Lifetime Achievement Award.

In addition to his broadcast duties, Berkey is the owner of SportsPlay Live, Inc. which produces local sports broadcasts. He has also authored two children's books: The Night I Borrowed Santa's Sleigh and The Easter Bunny Is Missing!

A graduate of Western Michigan with a degree in communications, Berkey and his wife, Jane, reside in Comstock Park. Together they have a daughter, Lindsey, a son, Jacob, and four grandchildren.
