LIMA, Ohio – Northwestern Ohio made a statement this weekend by concluding a three-game sweep of Davenport with a pair of wins on Sunday in Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference play. The Panthers (3-3) fell 4-2 in game one and 6-4 in game two against the undefeated Racers (6-0).
The offense just didn't get going all weekend for the Panthers as they had four hits in game one and plated just two runs. UNOH scored twice in the first and then added single runs in the third and fourth innings. DU scored twice in the seventh, both unearned runs, to cut the deficit to 4-2.
Grant Steinborn collected a RBI single and pinch runner
Zac Wilson scored on a throwing error.
Krystien Johnson-Batillana got the start and went four innings and allowed four runs with four strikeouts.
Caleb Leach tossed three scoreless innings and
Jonathan Cheshire added another for the Panthers.
The Panthers jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the first in game two but could not hold the lead.
Brian Sobieski drew a bases-loaded walk for the first run and
Jeremy Vasquez doubled home two more with two outs.
UNOH scored twice in the first to immediately cut the lead down to 3-2. The Racers tied it with a run in the third and took a 5-3 lead with two runs in the fourth. DU made it 5-4 in the fifth but UNOH added insurance in the bottom half of the fifth.
Andrew Click took the loss going 3.1 innings and allowing five runs with two strikeouts. Cheshire appeared in game two for 4.2 innings and allowed just one run with five strikeouts. Anthony DiPonio collected two hits and a RBI. DU had six hits in the nightcap.
