VanderBaan, Brooks Garner WHAC Track & Field Athletes of the Week

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Coming off a strong finish at Hillsdale's Gina Relays last weekend, Davenport track & field members Kelsee VanderBaan and Tori Brooks were recognized by the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference as its women's track and men's field athletes of the week Monday, respectively. It is the second time Brooks has won the league's Field Athlete of the Week in three weeks while VanderBaan earned the first track award in her illustrious Davenport career.
 
VanderBaan, a Grand Rapids native, highlighted the women's side at the meet by breaking the program's record in the 2:16.73 in the 800m race. Brooks, who hails from Saginaw, Mich., continued to add on to the school record along with winning both the high and long jumps out of 18 and 29 competitors, respectively. He reached as high as 2.09m in the high jump and a distance of 7.37m in the triple jump.
 
The Panthers will head to the campus of Siena Heights for the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference Outdoor Championships Thursday and Friday. Thursday's festivities are slated for a 3 p.m. start.
