POINT LOOKOUT, Mo. – Davenport trailed by as many as 24 points with 14 minutes to go in the game but went on a furious comeback that came up three points short in a 67-64 loss to No. 18 Southeastern (Fla.). The setback ends the 2013-14 campaign for the Panthers as they finish with an overall record of 29-7. The Fire advance to their first ever Fab Four and will play either Indiana Wesleyan or Friends on Monday.

Dominez Burnett (19) and JaVontae Ford (16) combined for 35 for the Panthers but it was not enough to lift Davenport from an 11-point halftime and eventually a 24-point deficit to a win and a berth in their second Fab Four in the last three seasons. DU struggled from the field all game and connected on just 23-64 (35.9) shots in the loss.

Southeastern jumped out to a big 9-2 lead early but the Panthers slowly crawled back in and held a 15-11 lead after scoring nine straight points finished off by an offensive put-back from John McCloud. The lead quickly vanished however as the Fire used their own run, this time a 7-0 one to grab the lead back and they never trailed again for the remainder of the contest, going into the locker room up 30-19.

The Fire, who scored the last 10 of the first half, then connected on the first six of the second to up their lead to 36-19 forcing Burt Paddock into a timeout. The run did not stop there however as after one free-throw from Dominez Burnett, SE scored 11 of the next 14 to increase the margin to 24 with 14:15 to play.

That was when the comeback started for the Panthers as they went on a 39-15 run to tie the game at 62-62. JaVontae Ford hit three triples in the run and DU got a 3-point play from Mike Betcher and Dominez Burnett. The game then became a free-throw shooting contest as the last seven points all came from the charity stripe with Southeastern making five compared to DU's two. The Panthers did have four chances to either tie or take the lead but three 3-point attempts were just off as the Fire escaped with the win.

The game marked the last for Davenport's largest senior class under coach Burt Paddock: Mike Betcher, Brendan Cooper, Jon Prins, JaVontae Ford and DeArmond Davis.

Post-Game Notes
The appearance in the Quarterfinal marked the third time in the last four seasons Davenport has reached the game…The loss is the first to a Sun Conference opponent in program history as they are now 2-1…JaVontae Ford leaves the school as its all-time leader in points, rebounds, steals, 3-point makes and defensive rebounds…DeArmond Davis leaves the school as the all-time leader in blocked shots
