GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – After their first season at the highest level of collegiate rugby, four players received invitations to the All-American Camp that will be held in Los Angeles California the beginning June. 55 invites were sent out across the country to get the top players in one location to battle for a place on the 30 man squad that will tour to New Zealand this coming July and DU will be represented by
Jean Pierre Eloff,
Angus MacLellan,
Ryan Hargraves and
Gabe Sochanek.
Jean Pierre Eloff, a two-time All American and two-time All-American Touring squad member, got another invite to participate again this year. If JP get selected again he will be a 3
rd year All-American, with two years left of eligibility and could become the first college rugby player to have five years of All-American status behind his name .
Angus Maclellan, captain of the DU 1
st XV and former Junior World Trophy u/20 winner also got an invite. Angus also excelled through the first three years and this will be another accolade he can put on his resume. Angus has been involved in the last two U/20 All-American Teams that participated in the Junior World Trophy, where the USA won it all in 2012.
Ryan Hargraves got his second invite and although he didn't make the final touring squad last season, he made a good impression this season to get another chance. This will be a nice end to Ryan's College career if he can push for a spot on the touring squad
The last player that got invited is
Gabe Sochanek. Socahnek got invited to the U/20 All American try outs with teammate
Angus MacLellan in 2012 but didn't make the final cut for the World Trophy Team. Sochanek had an outstanding season and received the MVP for Davenport this past season
The team will be announced early June and will play in 2 games against the New Zealand University Select side.
