GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Central Collegiate Lacrosse Association (CCLA) announced their post-season awards last weekend and eight different Davenport Lacrosse players found their names on the list. For the Panthers the list was highlighted by
Mac Ganzak who was named 1
st Team Defense and earned Defensive Player of the Year honors.
Davenport, which recently qualified for the 2012 MCLA National Tournament in Greenville, S.C. as an at-large team, placed six players on the 1
st Team All-CCLA with two other receiving honorable mention honors. With eight players earning honors, Davenport finished just behind GVSU and Dayton who had ten and nine players respectively.
Mac Ganzak led the way for the Panthers earning 1
st Team Defense honors. Ganzak also became the second consecutive Davenport player to be named Defensive Player of the Year. Zachary Higgins was named Defensive Player of the Year last season.
Jordan Richtsmeier led Davenport in assists with 36 and also tallied 28 goals for the Panthers, which earned him a 1
st Team Attack nod.
Cody Cross earned 1
st Team Midfield honors for the second straight year after leading Davenport with 38 goals.
Also earning 1
st Team honors for a second time is senior
Kyle Anguilm for Defensive Midfielder while
Adam Bowers received his third 1
st Team honor (2
nd consecutive) for Long Stick Midfielder.
Alexis Buque was named to the 1
st Team for the first time for his play in goal.
Dominic Boggiano and
Sam White earned Honorable Mention Honors for attack and defense, respectively.
Davenport will be competing in the MCLA National Tournament for the fourth straight year when the tournament begins on May 14 in Greenville, S.C. The Panthers title defense will start with a match-up against the eleventh-seeded Concordia Cardinals out of Irvine, Calif. at 1:00 PM.
