GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Head women's basketball coach Mike Williams continues to add to his first full recruiting class as he recently signed two junior college transfers and a high school standout from Wisconsin. Davenport welcomes in Kalamazoo Valley CC's Kendra Cook, Macomb CC's Brianne Woyceheski and West Allis Central's Claire Hankins.
Davenport women's basketball continues to bring in some of the area and state's best talent and this past few weeks, head coach Mike Williams inked two junior college transfers and one high school standout from Wisconsin to add to an already elite recruiting class.
Kendra Cook - Kalamazoo Valley CC - Kendra will come to Davenport with two years of eligibility after a standout career at KVCC. The 6'1 post-players averaged 16 points and 9 rebounds per game for the Lady Cougars. The Western Conference 1st Team performer was also named to the All-District “G” team. “Kendra provides an experience inside presence for us, said Williams. She can run the floor and has great hands…She is a leader on and off the court and she will be a great addition to our junior class.”
Claire Hankins - West Allis Central High School (Wisconsin) - Claire is another standout from the state of Wisconsin to join the Lady Panther program joining senior Leah Sevcik on the 2012-13 squad. The 5'10 forward was named All-Conference during her junior and senior campaigns and averaged just over 10 points per game on the varsity team. “Claire is a big guard who can score from both the perimeter and around the basket, added Williams. She is also long defensively which gives us length on the perimeter. We are excited to have her in our program and join our Panther family.”
Brianne Woyceheski - Macomb CC - Brianne is the second junior college player added to this year's recruiting class as she comes to DU from Macomb CC. At Macomb, Brianne was a two year starter and helped the team to a 17-1 conference record last season in which the clinched the outright championship. Brianne attended Harbor Beach High School. “Bri is a tireless competitor who is relentless on both ends of the floor, said Williams. She will give us help on the glass as well as versatility on defense. Her athleticism will be a great fit for our program and it makes our junior class a solid one.
Davenport University will enter the 2012-13 school year looking for their seventh consecutive WHAC title. DU will also be looking to make the NAIA National Tournament for the ninth straight season.
