Davenport Falls in OT in Rematch of Last Season's National Championship

ST. LOUIS, Mo. – Davenport rallied from a three goal deficit late in the fourth quarter to send the game into overtime but fell to St. Thomas 8-9 in the extra frame. Cody Cross led the Panthers with three goals while Jordan Richtsmeier recorded a pair of goals and three assists. Davenport will be in action again on Saturday at 3:00 PM EST when they take on #11 North Dakota State.
 
Most of the opening quarter was a defensive struggle with neither teams giving up much ground. St. Thomas got on the board first with a goal just over two minutes into the game. Cody Cross responded quickly for Davenport tying the game at 1-1 18 seconds later. With just over three minutes left in the first, St. Thomas scored again to give the Tommies a one goal advantage after one.
 
St. Thomas came out firing in the second quarter and pushed their lead to four a few minutes into the quarter. Near the midway point of the quarter Jack Turcotte netted a goal and when Lyle Parks scored with 17 seconds left in the half, the Panthers had cut the lead to 5-3.
 
Just over a minute into the third quarter, Chapin White pulled Davenport within one but St. Thomas responded three minutes later with a goal to push the lead back out to two. A man-up, Jordan Richtsmeier put away a goal to bring the Panthers within one heading into the fourth quarter.
 
In the fourth, St. Thomas scored the first two goals put the Panthers down three with just over nine minutes to play. Still trailing by three, Cross scored with 2:31 left to play and Richtsmeier scored with just over a minutes to play to bring Davenport within one.
 
Coming out of a St. Thomas timeout, the Tommies had the ball with 24 seconds remaining when the Panthers forced a turnover and ran down the field where Richtsmeier found Cross who put away the tying goal with four seconds left to send the game to overtime.
 
In the extra frame, St. Thomas controlled the play from the start and found the back of the net 1:51 in.
 
Alexis Buque kept Davenport in the game making 17 saves while allowing nine goals in the overtime loss. The Panthers were outshot 49-26.
 
Cody Cross netted three goals for the Panthers to lead the team. Jordan Richtsmeier recorded five points (2g, 3a) while Dominic Boggiano (2a), Lyle Parks (1g), Taylor Keyworth (2a), Chapin White (1g), and Jack Turcotte (1g) also tallied points for Davenport.
 
Davenport drops to 3-2 with the loss. The Panthers will be in action again on Saturday when they take on #11 North Dakota State at 3:00 PM CST. Live stats will be available for the game as well as live video.

The Panthers are now 1-3 all-time against St. Thomas with their only win coming in last season's National Championship…Davenport was 1-6 on extra-man opportunities…Davenport is 0-2 in overtime this season.
