GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - Both the Davenport University basketball teams are atop the league standings and both are coming off perfect 2-0 weeks in which they each saw one of their own grab the top weekly honor handed out by the WHAC on Monday. Freshman

JaVontae Ford were named the WHAC Basketball players of the week.
After posting one of the best week's of her young career, freshman
Abbey Hengesbach earned her first collegiate weekly honor to help Davenport improve to 20-2 on the season and 10-0 in the league. Hengesbach posted a career night against rival Cornerstone where she finished with 25 points and 12 rebounds to help DU overcome a sluggish shooting night to prevail 78-70 in double-OT.
Abbey followed up that performance with 13 points and 6 rebounds against UM-Dearborn despite only playing 14 minutes in the 101-63 victory over the Wolves. On the season. Hengesbach is averaging 14.3 points and 5.3 rebounds per night.
On the men's side, DU received an average of 19.5 points and 7 rebounds per game from red-shirt sophomore
JaVontae Ford to help the No. 3 ranked Panthers pick up a pair of league wins over Cornerstone and UM-Dearborn.
Ford, who now leads the team in scoring at 16.5 points per night, finished with 18 points and grabbed nine rebounds in a 16-point win over Cornerstone. The margin of victory was the largest in school history for DU over their cross-town rival. JaVontae followed that up with another hot-shooting game that saw him post 21 points and 5 rebounds while knocking down five shots from behind the arc in a convincing win over the Wolves of Dearborn.
Both teams face Indiana Tech on Wednesday and Siena Heights on Saturday. The men are on the road for both games while the women will host the Warriors and Saints. All games can be viewed or listened to on the DAN.
