BLAINE, Minn. – Davenport D1 Rugby defeated Kansas State on Sunday to advance to the Final Four of the USA Rugby D-1 National Tournament. The Panthers jumped out early and where able to extend their lead throughout the second half en route to the victory. The Panther will play in the Final Four on May 13th and 14th in Stanford, Cali.
Jean Pierre Eloff (Pritoria, South Africa) started things off for the Panthers converting two penalty kicks early in the game to give Davenport a 6-0 lead.
Davenport got their first try from Erin Hillary (Grand Rapids, Mich.) and a successful conversion by Eloff extended DU's lead to 13-0. A John Nowak (Grand Rapids, Mich.) try and conversion by Eloff late in the first half made Davenport's lead 20-0 at halftime.
Adam Ries (Morenci, Mich.) quickly got Davenport on the board in the second half with a try and after a Eloff conversion, the Panther lead was extended to 27-0.
After a Kansas State try and failed conversion, Davenport rebounded tries by Erin Hillary and Ryan Hargraves (Grand Blanc, Mich.) to make the score 41-5.
Mason Baum (Osceola, Ind.) added another try for Davenport late as they cruised to a 46-5 win over the wildcats of Kansas State.
With the win the Panthers advance to the Final Four of the USA Rugby D-1 National Tournament. The Final Four will take place on May 13th and 14th in Stanford Cali.
