HOLLAND, Mich. – The Panthers offense went cold in a non-conference tilt with host Hope College as DU fell 5-0 to the Dutchmen. Davenport, now 24-15 on the year, plays again tomorrow at home against Alma College. First pitch is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. at the South Christian Athletic Park.
The host Dutchmen gained the lead early in the first inning as Hope used two infield singles and a sacrifice bunt to put base runners on second and third. A sacrifice fly brought home the first run and an error allowed the second runner for score for the 2-0 Dutchmen lead after one.
Hope doubled their score in the fifth inning for a 4-0 advantage. The Dutchmen added one more run in the seventh for the final 5-0 score.
The Panthers offense totaled only six hits, which were all singles. None of the DU base runners made it past second base in the nine inning game.
After playing eight straight road games, the Panthers return home tomorrow for a single nine inning game with Alma College at South Christian Athletic Park. The first pitch is set for 2:00 p.m.
