Palmer and Waaso Lead Panthers to 3rd Place Finish on Day 1 at USF Cougar Invite

Seniors fire round of 74 and 75 to help DU to team score of 302

KENDALVILLE, Ind. - Seniors Kevin Palmer and Kale Waaso opened their final season in a DU uniform on Monday as they led the Panthers to a third place finish on Day 1 of the St. Francis Cougar Invite.  Davenport fired a team score of 302 which is 14 shots behind the leader Indiana Tech.

In what has been a great career for both Kevin Palmer (Sarnia, Ontario) and Kale Waaso (South Haven, Mich.), the two seniors continued to lead the way for the men's golf team in the opening event of their final season.  Palmer fired a 74 (37-37) and is currently in eighth place individually while Waaso opened with a 75 (35-40).

Rounding out the scoring for DU were Jordan Phillips (Swartz Creek, Mich.) who finished with a 76 and Edwin Napieralski (Grand Rapids, Mich.)with a 77.  Jackson Davison (Rockford, Mich.), playing in his first tourney with DU posted a 79.

Cam Thomas (Kentwood, Mich.) led all DU players as he fired a 73 (36-37) while playing as an individual.  Thomas sits in 5th place after 18 holes of play.

The Wolverine Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) took home the top four spots on day one as Indiana Tech fired a 288 to lead Cornerstone by five shots and Davenport by 14.  2009 WHAC champion Madonna sits in fourth place after a 304.
