Kruger Van Biljon

Kruger van Biljon is in his fifth year on the staff of the Davenport men's rugby program and fourth at the helm. In van Biljon's first season as head coach, he led Davenport to their first USA Rugby D1-AA National Championship, defeating UC Santa Barbara 38-19. van Biljon and the Panthers followed that up by defeating San Diego State 39-0 in the USA Rugby D1-AA National Championship for the program's second consecutive National Championship.

van Biljon grew up on a ranch in Potchefstroom, South Africa and started playing rugby at the age of six. He represented all age groups from Under 9/A side all the way trough 1st XV at Potchefstroom Gymnasium in 1997 and 1998.

van Biljon had a short stint with London Scholars Rugby League in England in 1999 and played at the Houston Athletic Rugby Club in 2000. In 2001-02, von Biljon represented the North West Universities before moving onto the Chicago Lions in 2003 where he played until 2006 and finally ending his rugby playing career with the Grand Rapids Gazelles in 2007.

In the fall of 2008, van Biljon began coaching at the University of Notre Dame as the backs coach and splitting his time between Notre Dame and Davenport for a year and a half. He was also part of the first annual Collegiate 7’s Rugby Competition in Columbus Ohio in 2010, where he was part of the Notre Dame 7’s coaching staff. In June 2011, van Biljon got invited back to lead the Fighting Irish to their second appearance at the Collegiate 7’s Rugby Competition (CRC) in Philadelphia.

van Biljon currently lives in Jenison with his wife Jenny.
