GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The Davenport University Softball team rounded out its pitching staff for next season with the recent signing of Lansing CC transfer Brianna Carpenter. DU will enter its second season after finishing 31-23 in their inaugural year. Carpenter, a junior hurler from Irvine , CA, excelled at Lansing Community College where she captured NFCA and NJCAA DII All-American honors in both years. In 2009, Carpenter tallied a 1.563 ERA while hurling 183.2 innings, amassing 207 strikeouts and a 29-2 overall record. The junior pitcher ranked 14th in the NJCAA in ERA this year. Carpenter helped lead Lansing Community College to a 3rd place finish in the national championship this year. For her efforts, Carpenter was honored as a member of the NJCAA DII All-tournament team. "Bri is top notch powerful pitcher who knows how to work the ball around the plate. Her ability to change speeds as well as being spot on with her location have aided in her successful career at Lansing," states Coach Ronda Varnesdeel, "Her command and poise on the mound will add some needed experience to our staff this year. We are excited that a pitcher of her caliber has chosen Davenport to continue her education." Bri will pursue a degree in business at Davenport. |
