Grand Rapids, Mich. - Davenport Women's lacrosse team will open their inaugural season on March 15th with a game against division III Adrian College. The decision to add both Women's and Men's lacrosse came at the end of 2006 and since then Coach Stacy Faulkner has been working hard to bring girls here to West Michigan to play lacrosse. Three area high schools will be represented on the field. Faulkner's two top recruits come from one of the areas strongest lacrosse programs Forest Hills. Goalie Shaye Bradley a freshman this season with will be the quarterback of the defense. Shaye has the strength and ability to be one of the top goalies in the WCLL. She led Forest Hills to become the top division I girls' lacrosse team in West Michigan. Another teammate from Forest Hills, Brittany Roys will lead the offense with her scoring ability. Grand Rapids Catholic Central is also represented by freshman Francesca Cedillo. Jamie VandeWinkle a junior out of Detroit has been on the ice hockey circuit for years. Her skills on the ice have transferred beautifully. We are expecting her to also be a strong scoring threat. Another threat will come from the Stieg sisters. Helena and Kendra both starting Varsity Volleyball players for Davenport have transferred their talents to the lacrosse field easily. The women's team will be playing a 12 game schedule this spring, with their goal being the ability to attend the regional tournament at the end of April. |
