SOUTH LYON, Mich. - Senior Caitlin Duval has repeated as WHAC Individual Champion as she held off a strong charge today from Indiana Tech and won the medalist honors after a three-hole playoff at Walnut Creek CC. It marks the second straight championship for Duval as she has now qualified for the National Championships. After making a par putt on the 18th hole to tie the lead for the individual championship, Caitlin Duval (Grandville, Mich.) made bogey, birdie and par on the three playoff holes to win by one stroke. Caitlin entered the final round with a 5-shot lead over Indiana Tech's Megan Harrison but Harrison posted an outstanding score of 76 on Tuesday to force the 3-hole playoff. After falling behind by a stroke with a bogey on the first playoff hole, Duval came back strong and stuck her tee shot on the par-3 17th to about 5 feet and knocked it in for birdie as her opponent made a bogey and Caitlin went to the 18th with a one shot lead. Two pars on the 18th resulted in a one shot win for the senior who has now won back-to-back WHAC Championships. Duval, who won the championship last year as a junior, will represent Davenport and the Wolverine Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) in next spring's NAIA National Championships from May 25-28. |
