Elgin, Ill. - It was a sight that many Panthers fans did not want to see as Freshman Kristi Boehm was lying on the floor just seconds into the game against Northwestern, but the bench came to play today as they lifted DU to an impressive 74-37 victory at the Judson Tournament in Elgin, IL. Boehm, a freshman from Kent City, MI went down on a lose ball in the opening minute and left the game with a serious cut above her right eye. She received 10 stitches and her status for tomorrow night's game is uncertain. The bench made up for her absence as Lyndsey Shepherd had an outstanding game at the point guard position. Shepherd finished with 3 points, 4 rebounds, 8 assists and 7 steals. DU opened the game on an 18-2 run and never looked back even as the Eagles cut the lead to just 8 at 26-18 midway through the first half. The Panthers used a half-court trapping defense that led to many easy baskets and hit twelve 3-point shots on the day for the convincing win. Jeanette Woodberry led the offensive charge as she posted 17 points in only 20 minutes of action and was followed in double-digits by Sara Haverdink (14 - all in the 1st half), Kristin Bergsma (12) and Brittany Lyman (10). It was a total team effort today as every Panthers player saw the floor for more than 10 minutes of game action with the exception of Boehm and the Panthers will now play the winner of Judson University and IU-Northwest in tomorrow afternoon's championship game. The game is scheduled to begin at 4:00 CST and will be broadcast on internet radio beginning 10 minutes before the game. |
