GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The 2008-2009 Athletic Year is in the books for Davenport University as the department will now look towards next year with the new arrival of men's and women tennis, competitive dance and cheer as well as varsity rugby.

With 19 sports taking to the fields and courts this past season, the Panthers were very successful both on and off their respective competitive surfaces.

Beginning with the non-NAIA teams that include Men's and Women's Bowling, Men's and Women's Lacrosse as well as both our ACHA D2 and D3 Hockey teams, the Panthers showed they are a university that will be competing for not only conference championships in the future but also national championships.

Included in the non-NAIA awards were five 1st team All-Conference Performers, four 2nd team and one All-Conference Honorable Mention. Nationally, the Panthers had six athletes earn 1st Team All-American honors as well as one on the third team and one honorably mentioned.

Academically, three student-athletes earned Academic All-American honors. On the NAIA teams, the Panthers were just as successful on both the Wolverine Hoosier Athletic (WHAC) and national levels.

Included in the WHAC honors were 17 All-WHAC 1st team performers as well as 33 track & field athletes placing in the top six at the indoor and outdoor meets. DU also placed three on the 2nd and 3rd teams as well as nine on the honorable mention team.

Nationally, Davenport was honored with one 1st Team All-American, one 2nd Team All-American and three were placed on the honorable mention team.

Academically, 11 student-athletes earned All-WHAC honors and 10 of them were named NAIA Scholar Athletes.
