GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - Adam Thomas has become the all-time leading points scorer at Davenport University as he passed former DU captain Marc Lira in the record books last week against Ferris State. Thomas broke Lira's mark of 313 on an assist against the Bulldogs on Saturday, January 30.

Adam Thomas, who is a fifth year senior at Davenport, already has notched his name in the DU Hockey record books by becoming the all-time leading goal scorer in school history but he now has the distinction of scoring the most points since the program started in 2002-03.

"Adam is a very talented athlete, said Head Coach and Athletic Director Paul Lowden. He has been a great addition to our hockey and golf program as well as an ambassador of our athletic department at Davenport University. Adam is a home grown athlete who was born and raised in Kentwood Michigan better known to us as "The Wood"."

Coming into the season, Thomas had scored 281 points which put him 32 behind former DU captain Marc Lira who played from 2002-2007. Adam tied the scoring mark while the team was out in Arizona as he posted one goal and two assists in their 8-0 win over the host Sun Devils in the final game.

Adam then broke the record in the second period of Davenport's 10-4 win over GMHL foe Ferris State on January 30. The assist came on a goal from second year player Clay Mattson at the 17:33 mark. The team is currently 24-14 on the year after splitting with Oakland University the past two games and Adam has taken on the role as assistant captain during his final season.

"Over the past 5 years Adam has grown as a person and developed into a very good leader, added Lowden. He leads by example and represents himself, his team and Davenport University with respect, honor and a high level of integrity. His absence in our hockey program will be missed and very hard to replace. Talented athletes with great attitudes like Adam are hard to find."

Lira's record was one that stood out in the hockey program as one that may never be touched as the forward scored 118 goals and 195 assists. Thomas heading into this year already had the career lead in goals with 169 and the forward added 112 assists.

Through 27 games played during the 2009-2010 season, Adam has posted 19 goals and 19 assists giving him a total of 319 for his career.

Lowden finished by saying, "Adam Thomas breaking Marc Lira's record is significant. Marc Lira was one of our founding players who was a key factor in putting Davenport Hockey on the map. As our program matures we continue to play tougher competition every year."
