Sam Waldhart records 2 goals in Panthers 6-4 win over GVSU

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - Davenport beats cross town rival and #1 in the Central Region, GVSU 6-4 giving them their first win over the Lakers. The win improves the Panthers record to 21-7, 8-4 in the MCHC.

DU started off the game down by one, but rallied and scored the next four goals to put them up 4-1 as the first period came to an end. Norm Farr (Jenison, Mich.) got the scoring started for the Panthers with assists from Jordan Phillips (Swartz Creek, Mich.) and Zack Feher (Livonia, Mich.)DU would score three more times to end the first period on goals from Jordan Phillips (Swartz Creek, Mich.), Sam Waldhart (Walker, Mich.), and Chad Ouellette (Windsor, Ont.).

The Lakers again recoded the first goal to start the second period, but DU's Jordan Phillips (Swartz Creek, Mich.) answered back with his second goal of the night on assists from Taylor Keyworth, (Grand Rapids, Mich.) and Greg Schmidt (Grand Rapids, Mich.) . The Panthers ended the second period with a 5-2 lead.

The third period started off very physical as both teams spent time in the penalty box. Davenport would score first in the third period with Sam Waldhart (Walker, Mich.) recording his second goal of the night.

The Panthers were able to hold off a late GVSU attack as the Lakers recorded back to back goals in the last 3 minutes making the final score 6-4 in favor of the Panthers.

The win improves DU's win streak to 5, as they will travel to Jackson tomorrow night to play Jackson CC.
