GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The "Cross Town Clash" will resume this weekend as arch-rivals Davenport and Grand Valley State will take part in three games over two days that feature both the D2 and D3 programs. The "Cross Town Clash" rivalry dates back to the 2002 season in which the brand new D2 program at Davenport played their first game ever against Grand Valley State. The 3-2 loss for the Panthers was the first in school history but they have since won 17 of the next 21 contests (also two ties) including the last nine. Friday will mark the 3rd time this season that the D2 programs will meet up as Grand Valley will serve as the host with a 9:00 game set at Georgetown Ice Arena in Hudsonville. DU will then host the Lakers on Saturday night with a 7:00 PM face-off at Patterson Ice Center. On the D3 side, the game will also serve as the 3rd match-up of the year with the North Region #1 ranked Lakers winning each of the first two. Head Coach Chris Green is looking for a possible upset to improve his #3 ranking that also sees the Panthers behind #2 Hope College. Game time at Patterson for the D3 game on Friday is set for 8:00 PM and the game. All three games over the weekend will be carried live on the Davenport Athletics Network (DAN).
