VANCOUVER, Wash. – Davenport women's cross country junior
Kelsee VanderBaan was competing in a different atmosphere Saturday afternoon. The Lady Panther may have raced without the presence of her teammates on the course, but she gained a lot of experience to share with her teammates as she turned in a time of 21:42 for a 285
th place finish out of 320 runners in the program's debut at the NAIA Championship, held at the Fort Vancouver National Historic Site in Washington.
Around the national meet, Hillary Holt of the College of Idaho won the race with a time of 17:00 but the University of British Columbia claimed the team championship after four of its five runners placed in the top 20 for a total of 98 points. Holt and her teammates took second with 112 points.
VanderBaan closes out the cross country season having set a school record time of 19:23 at the Wolverine Hoosier Athletic Conference Championship in late October.
Post-Meet Quotes
Head coach
Scott Cook: "This year our women really focused on being a team and pushing each other. When you take the team away and have to compete as an individual it becomes a difficult task to perform at your best. Our goal was to make it to the National Championships this year and we accomplished that. Now Kelsee can share her experience with her teammates and hopefully compete here next year as a team.”
Kelsee VanderBaan: “Even though I did not run that well today it will be a great experience to build on and use as motivation for next year."
