No. 5 Panthers Cruise Past No. 10 Grove City 14-3

GROVE CITY, Pa. - The No. 5 ranked Davenport Panthers picked up a critical top-10 showdown win today over No. 10 Grove City.  Davenport scored six of the first seven goals in route to a dominating 14-3 win over their fellow CCLA foe.  DU will meet No. 8 Briarcliffe on Sunday.

The host Grove City Wolverines scored the first goal of the game, but Davenport went on a 6-0 run that was finally ended with a late goal from the home team to give the Panthers a 6-2 lead at the break.  DU kept the offensive pressure up in the second half by outscoring GCC 4-0 in the third quarter and 4-1 in the fourth.

Taylor Keyworth (Grand Rapids, Mich.)got the Panthers on the board after an early Grove City goal and he was followed by five more consecutive goals from his teammates with Gavin Morris (Rockford, Mich.) picking up a pair of them.  Also scoring for DU were Dominic Boggiano (Grand Rapids, Mich.), Shawn Beer (Aurora, Ontario) and Jordy Sayers (Davison, Mich.).

After a goal from the Wolverines ended the 6-0 Davenport run, the two teams went into the locker room with the Panthers holding a 6-2 lead.

Looking to put more distance between themselves and No. 10 Grove City, Davenport came out on fire in the third scoring the first seven goals to take a commanding 13-2 lead.  Boggiano started the scoring just 1:28 into the third quarter.

Shawn Beer (Aurora, Ontario) added two more goals to give him three on the day and Boggiano also added another to tie the senior for the game high.  Zach Higgins (Courtice, Ontario) was solid all day in net as the junior finished with 10 saves to improve his record to 2-0 on the year.

No. 5 Davenport will travel to No. 8 Briarcliffe on Sunday for another Top-10 showdown in the MCLA.  Game time is set for 11:00am and live stats will be provided.
