KENTWOOD, Mich. - Davenport's D2 Rugby team opened their spring season with a dominating 43-0 win over Saginaw Valley State. Five different players recorded tries as Davenport improves to 5-3 on the year and 1-0 in the spring slate.
DU got off on the right track today for the second half of the season as they jumped out to a 15-0 lead at halftime and put up 28 more in the second for the easy victory.
Darrell Williams (Schaumburg, Ill.) scored once in the opening half and
Griffin Benson (Traverse City, Mich.) recorded two tries to put Davenport on top 15-0 after three failed conversions.
The scoring continued for the visiting Panthers in the second as Williams scored again and was joined by two from
Jean Pierre Eloff (Pritoria, South Africa) and one from
Joe Marino (Detroit, Mich.). Eloff recorded all four conversions for the 43-0 win.
DU will next be in action on April 2 when they travel to Fort Wayne to take on IU-Fort Wayne.
