Game 1 Box Score | Game 2 Box Score
RIVERSIDE, Calif. – Davenport competed in the final day of the Ringor So Cal Smash today where they saw themselves drop two games to #1 California Baptist. DU fell 3-0 in game one and then 9-1 in game two which ended after six innings due to the run rule.
Sam Cole (Belleville, Mich.) started on the mound for the Panthers in game one in which she shut down the powerful Cal Baptist roster the first four innings. Tied 0-0 in the bottom of the fifth, the Lancers jumped on the board with a solo homerun to left field.
Cal Baptist would add two more runs in the sixth on three hits to take the 3-0 lead heading into the seventh inning. Davenport would be unable to push any runners across home, leaving runners in scoring position in three different innings.
Ashlee Olsen (Rockford, Mich.), Brianna Carpenter (Irvine, Calif.), Kelsey Egyhazi (Mishawaka, Ind.) and Cirina Jones (Middleton, Mich.) would account for one hit each with Liz Veltman (Grand Ledge, Mich.) having two walks in the 3-0 loss.
The original tournament schedule called for the Panthers to take on Southern Oregon in the consolation game but with both Southern Oregon and Simpson leaving early for undisclosed reasons, Davenport would face California Baptist for the third time in three days.
In game two the Lancers would once again prove to be too much for the Panthers. After jumping out to a 1-0 lead in the first inning off a Heather Brusokas (Glendale, Calif.) homerun, Davenport's bats would cool down with only two more hits in the game.
Freshman Lindsey Allen (Midland, Mich.) would record her first collegiate hit in her first collegiate at bat with a double to right center. Katie Cornman would account for DU's third hit in the game with Brianna Carpenter (Irvine, Calif.) taking 9-1 the loss on the mound for the Panthers.
Davenport is now 0-5 to start the season and will look to record their first win next week when they travel to Florida. DU will return to the diamond at Webber International on Wednesday, February 23rd for a 1:00pm doubleheader. Both live radio and stats will be available at www.dupanthers.com.
